Michael Kelly

IMG_3549 - Michael KellyI am currently undergoing a Masters of Research (Biological Sciences) in Mariellas’ Lab here at Macquarie University. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in zoology and my interests include predatory defences, such as mimicry, aposematism, and crypsis. I am currently investigating the widespread occurrence of inaccurate mimicry (i.e. where a mimic species poorly resembles its’ model). My focus is on inaccurate myrmecomorphic (i.e. ant-mimicking) spiders. I am tackling this question using a phylogenetic approach to observe whether there are any signals, or patterns, for inaccurate mimicry across a species based phylogeny.
